MUSKEGON, Mich. -

A device once was prohibited in many classrooms is becoming a tool for teaching.

Mlive.com reports that some western Michigan school officials say they are reconsidering bans on cell phones.

School teachers are tired of fighting battles and are finding that they can enhance learning.

Holton Public Schools near Muskegon recently updated its policy to allow electronic mobile devices to be used in classrooms if teachers agree.

District superintendent Jason Kennedy says lifting some barriers can support the way students learn today.

Ravenna Public Schools currently allows use of phones before school and during lunch, but students can bring them to class if teachers request them.

Superintendent John VanLoon says the policy is "a little antiquated" and needs to be updated.
