Harper Woods police have issued a community alert about car thefts after they say there's been a steady rise of them since July.
Harper Wood Police Chief Jim Burke said there had been 183 incidents as of the end of August. He said the majority of the thefts were happening to cars parked overnight on streets and cars that are parked in business lots during the weekend.
Burke said people should park their cars in garages or use theft deterrent items like a Club.
Burke is encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity by calling the Harper Woods Police Department at 313-343-2530, or 911.
