The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), has immediately suspended the medical license of Fatima Bint E. Hassan, M.D., of Canton, based on her conviction in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division.
On May 17, 2012, Hassan was convicted of Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud, a felony. As a result, Hassan was sentenced to the custody of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons for a period of 48 months, and ordered to pay costs totaling $100.00 and restitution in the amount of $855,484.00.
On September 10, 2012, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Hassan's license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory summary suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony, a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for a maximum term of two years, or a controlled substance-related conviction.
